Ranchi: Eight individuals, including three women, have been arrested in connection with the ₹13 lakh robbery and shooting incident near ICICI Bank in Ranchi’s Pandra area last Monday.
SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha revealed on Sunday that the robbery was orchestrated by a former employee of a flour company. The gang targeted and robbed the company manager while he was en route to deposit money at the bank.
The arrested individuals include Rajesh Srivastava, Chandrashekhar Prasad Sinha, Santosh Kumar Singh, Karu Singh, Prakash Sao, Neelam Devi (Prakash’s wife), Sadhna Sinha (Chandrashekhar’s wife), and Poonam Devi. The women were detained for concealing the stolen cash.
Police recovered ₹2.63 lakh, two country-made pistols with ammunition, a car, and two motorcycles during the operation.
A special investigation team led by Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy cracked the case through CCTV footage analysis, which identified the culprits. Rajesh, Chandrashekhar, and Prakash were apprehended near Deepatoli while heading towards Piska More, with subsequent raids leading to the other arrests.
The investigation revealed that Chandrashekhar, the mastermind, was a former employee of the flour company and knew about its routine Monday bank deposits. The gang planned the heist at Hotel Vrindavan in Ormanjhi, with hotel owner Santosh also involved in the scheme.
The gang had previously attempted the robbery on December 23 but failed. During the successful heist, Chandrashekhar shot and injured Sumit Kumar, the manager of a nearby eatery who tried to intervene. Kumar has since been discharged from the hospital.
SSP Sinha stated that three members of the gang are still at large, and efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen amount.
